The Chinese New Year (or Spring Festival) celebration lasts 2 weeks here, and during this period, you ARE allowed to set off some fireworks. Its tradition to set them off, especially during New Year's Eve to welcome some new luck, and to shoo away any malingering evil spirits/demons.
The first thing i did when i got back to Hangzhou was buy some fireworks ha! My Singapore comrades, eat this!
its almost like war in the evenings during these 2 weeks -minus air sirens. You can hear explosions everywhere, and clouds of smoke linger in the air. Right in your own backyard. Can be quite annoying if you're trying to sleep!
These ones came out of a little tin that costs about SGD$10, and it set off quite a bang. Light the fuse, run a distance away and cover your ears.
